You’ve been there, I’ve been there, and we all have gone through some kind of slump in our lifetime. If you seem to have the Monday blues, well, every day of the week, and you can’t seem to get out of bed in the morning, or you didn’t land your dream job, or your significant other broke up with you. It can seem like the world is falling upon you, and for a moment, it is. I can tell you from personal experience that there is a way to change this feeling around. Even though everyone’s situation is vastly different, there is one simple rule that you can follow to create and maintain happiness.

Show Gratitude

What is gratitude? Gratitude is the quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation for and to return the kindness, according to By showing gratitude, you can change your negative mindset to a positive, thankful outlook. Everyone knows that having a negative mindset can put your whole day, week, month, and possibly even year into stressful and sometimes miserable times. There are many different ways of showing gratitude and incorporating it into your everyday life so you can live your best and satisfied life.

It is time to make the change, and turn your life around! It is time to start investing in YOURSELF and YOUR HAPPINESS.

I am going to tell you 5 ways that you can show gratitude, and wear the Attitude of Gratitude loud and proud.

1. Meditate

Meditation doesn’t have to be sitting on a beach, with the sunset and alone in silence for hours. Meditation can be done on lunch break, in the shower, or even right before bed. For some people, meditation can be hard. If you struggle to find peace in your mind, you can focus on all of the things that you are grateful for in your life. Meditation takes practice, but with time and effort, you will wonder how you ever lived life without it.

When you sit and focus on your breathing and surroundings, it can help you tune in on everything that is around you and what you find gratitude in. Let’s think of it like this, you’re in the shower, you can spend five minutes of your time to focus on your breathing. You can think to yourself thoughts such as, “I am grateful that I have a place to shower in.” Or when you’re at work “I am grateful that I have a job that allows me to make the money I need to sustain my family.” When thinking about these thoughts of gratitude, you will start to see a difference in your life, your mind, and yourself.

2. Start A Journal

When I first started on my journey to gain the attitude of gratitude, I started making lists of 10 things that I was grateful for every morning. My sister gave me one of the best gifts I had ever received. It was a yearly journal where I would write 10 things I was grateful for every morning. Once I took this step, that’s when I noticed the most significant change in my happiness, and with each passing day, I felt myself become more and happier.

At first, I was writing ten different things every day that I was grateful for, and soon I realized 5 aspects of my life that are remarkably relevant to me, and I noticed the trend in my gratitude journal. I continued to write down how grateful I am for these parts of my life, but I made sure that the second 5 things were different and unique to each day. This is important because it makes you really think hard about everything you have to be grateful for in your life.

Here is an example of how I express my gratitude.

First I start out with what I am grateful for, and then I explain why.

  1. I am grateful for my job so I can make money to live and support my family.
  2. I am grateful for the food in my pantry so that I can eat to live a healthy life
  3. I am grateful for my family because they support and love me unconditionally.
  4. I am grateful for technology, so I am able to share my knowledge with the world.
  5. I am grateful for my car that gets me to all of the places that I need to be.
  6. I am grateful for animals, as they make my life much better by showing me true and pure unconditional love.
  7. I am grateful for my fiance because he is the best friend that I have ever had, and he supports and believes in me.
  8. I am grateful for my friends who I can be my complete self around and always share laughs with.
  9. I am grateful for this Earth so that I can live on a planet with 7 billion unique souls.
  10. I am grateful for another day in this life so I can continue to grow personally, spiritually, and professionally.

3. Recognize the Little Things

When you take time to recognize the little things, you will see a HUGE difference in your life. When I say the little things, I mean when you wake up in the morning, and you think to yourself “I am grateful for the oxygen that I am breathing this morning,” or “I am grateful for my legs to get me to my bathroom to brush my teeth.”

You can turn a lousy morning around with these thoughts. Let’s say you wake up, and you’re having a terrible hair day, you can find gratitude in the fact that you have a reason to look nice, such as a job or a date. Recognizing small things, and being grateful for them, can turn a bad day into a good day, and a good day into a great day. It’s true when they say that the small things in life bring genuine happiness.

4. Talk About It

One of the best ways to express your gratitude is to simply talk about it. Talk about how you’ve become more conscious regarding your appreciation of the world around you. Tell people you’re thankful for them and why. As you talk about your actions, you will see the effect it has on others.

By spreading the word gratitude, you will not only change your world but the people who surround you as well.

5. Actively Seek It Out

Last, but definitely not the least, seek it out. Even when the going gets tough, you can always actively seek out things to be grateful for in your life. No matter what your situation is, by using the power of positive thinking, you will see an immense difference in your mind, attitude, and life.

Sometimes it may seem like the world is turning against you. You can find gratitude in something as simple as being on a planet that provides oxygen so you can breathe to live or have a beating heart that keeps YOU alive. Thoughts like this can be the start of your bad day and turning into an astounding day.
